Case Study: Efficiency Through Tools

Situation

Sigma, a new BI tool, was onboarded to allow for unlimited scale of external users to our data products (Insights for a fee). Additionally, the OLAP feature allowed for incremental efficiencies with internal users.

Action

Internal company users leveraged the data set and pivot functionality of Sigma, which brought our dashboard footprint down by ~85% within 6 to 9 months and increased the data team’s efficiency by 15% as we now focused on data sets vs dashboards, allowing internal stakeholders to get to their own results, and shifted focus to company-wide studies & insights.

Takeaway

Recognizing changing data needs and capitalizing on that from a tooling perspective in 9 months can only come from a seasoned data professional who understands the landscape.

Results

  1. Dashboard footprint was compressed by 85% over 9 months.

  2. Data team efficiency went up by 10 - 15%.

  3. Data team focus shifted from dashboards to company-wide studies for new product insights.
